Collection includes circulars, broadsides, announcements, directives, instructions, orders, notices in print or manuscript form from the Postmaster General of Canada to local Postmasters. The records include circulars with information about the following: ratings, mail robbery, new and re-opened post offices, open mails, Universal Postal Union, accounts, vouchers, appointements, oaths of office, tables of distances, refused mail, official seals, rebellion special reports, sailing packets, transmission irregularities, sureties, commissioned post offices, treasury warrants, delivery statistics, schedules, newspaper wrappers, forward system, missent and re-directed mail, military department collected postage, franking privileges, conductor of mail by steam, surveyor's districts, new post office law, patterns of merchandise and samples by post, letter bills, promissory notes, Jubilee stamps, Tercentenary stamps, booklets, unissued stamps, special delivery, War Tax stamp, stamp licenses and permits, frauds and fakes, and defective date stamping., The collection also includes records about registry letters, letter markings, foreign country letters, unpaid letters, and militia on active service letters. There is postage rate information for: East Indies, West Indies, England, Australia, Dutch Colonies, Holland, Ionian Islands, Lubeck, Sweden, Norway, Oldenburgh, Newfoundland, Switzerland, Belgium, Greece, Hong Kong, New South Wales, Germany, Cuba, New Zealand, and the Fiji Islands. There are circulars about blank bonds, and bonds to the crown, newspaper rates, pamphlets rate, tariffs rate, periodicals rate, packets rate, post card rate, seeds rate, book rate, and Christmas present rate. Contracts include those for conveying mail, providing mail bags, letter carriers boots, and uniforms. The following Postmaster Generals of Canada are represented: T.A. Stayner, W.H. Griffin, D.A. Macdonald, L.S. Huntington, John O'Connor, John Carling, A. Campbell, and R.M. Coulter.
