This fonds covers the period from 1999 to 2019. It is a selection of documents written by members of the FRI during that period including organizational and administrative documents, correspondences, minutes of board and committee meetings, annual plans and reports, documents relating to FRI's projects, workshops and events, script packages and script reviews, articles on radio innovations and radio programming techniques, studies done by FRI and its partners, broadcaster information documents consisting of how-to guides for broadcasters as well as FRI publications and newsletters.

Farm Radio International : Farm Radio International (FRI), previously known as Developing Countries Farm Radio Network (DCFRN), is an Ottawa-based non-profit organization focusing on radio use among African farming communities. It was founded by George Atkins, a former CBC broadcaster following a trip in Zambia in 1975. During his trip, Atkins interviewed African farmers and broadcasters and came to learn that the radio programs for farmers did not meet the needs of their listeners. After his return to Canada, Atkins established the Developing Countries Farm Radio Network, an organization that would allow him to collaborate with local broadcasters to produce better radio programs for African farmers.

Farm Radio International creates script packages for African broadcasters producing radio shows for farmers. On May 1, 1979, DCFRN sent the first package of scripts and tapes to 34 broadcasters in 26 countries. Since then, Farm Radio International has sent more than 100 script packages to over 780 radio stations in 40 countries. With a distinct focus on sub-Saharan Africa, Farm Radio International has offices in 11 countries.

Farm Radio International did not, and does not, produce radio programs, or own or operate radio stations. Rather FRI works with existing rural stations, be they government-run, private, religious or community. Its mission is to help them produce effective, interactive radio programs with creative scripts. Besides producing helping the broadcasters produce programs, Farm Radio International also provides local radio stations and broadcasters with radio resources, training workshops and radio innovations. Working in partnership with Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and Gates Foundation, FRI emphasized the production and distribution of radio scripts that rural broadcasters could broadcast in local languages to their farmer-listeners. The scripts focused of low-cost and no-cost ways that small-scale farmers could improve their yields and nutrition, have success at the market, and also enjoy improved family health.
