Each page of contact sheets shows several Army Numerical series photographs. The photographs are arranged both numerically and (roughly) chronologically and depict Canadian Army operations in Northwest Europe during the Second World War. The print album was originally used for DND photo reference purposes and may show censor marks, and other notations.Additional information:General note:The prints in this album document Canadian army activities and operations in North West Europe from August 17, 1944 - August 27, 1944. The album documents army activities around Hautmesnil, Brettville, Falaise, Sallenelles, St. Lambert sur Dives, Vimoutiers, Bayeaux, the advance on the Seine, Elboeuf, Bernay, and the occupation of Paris. Also documented in the album are; Provost Corps at work, mine at Saint Quentin, cemetery at May-Sur-Orne, Caen Civil Affairs, Belgium Brigade, Essex Scottish Regiment celebrating "Dieppe Day", and the Argyll and Sutherland Regiment. Included as well in the album are children's party and visit of Anthony Eden at First Canadian Division HQ, funeral for French Forces of the Interior at Chartres, visit of Prince Bernard, and liberation celebrations and the reception of General de Gaulle.Related material:The b&w safety negatives for photographs found in this album (numbers 38624 to 39325) can be found in CANADA.
