The collection covers much of Canada's federal electoral history, from the 1870s to 1990s, and consists of material from ridings across the country. The collection includes material from lesser-known, shorter-lived political parties (namely the movement toward a unified Conservative Party of Canada in the 1990s), thereby documenting the evolution of the Canadian political landscape. The items illustrate political perspectives on federal and international issues of the day, such as the reciprocity issue in the 1911 election.

McKillop, Christopher, 1956- : Chris McKillop is a communications consultant based in Ottawa. He began collecting with a single Sir Wilfrid Laurier poster bought in an antique store in Toronto. This collection is a combination of his interests in politics, graphic design and marketing, recognizing that every item was designed to tell a story in the context of its time and place. The collection as a whole shows the impacts of design trends over the years. The items were acquired from antique and collectible shops, auctions, online purchases, and trades with other collectors. In 1994, McKillop published an article in The Upper Canadian Antique Showcase about the posters and postcards used to debate free trade with the United States in the 1911 federal election campaign.
