This file consists of railway employee service record cards that are filed numerically by the employee's Provident Fund identification number. Other types of information on these cards includes member name, current occupation, rate of pay per month, date of birth, department, location (division), changes in/pay and occupation over time along (including 19th century) with corresponding dates and record of leaving/re-entering service.

Most of the PF numbers relate to employees for eastern Canada go from PF 1-22399, 25400-28599, 32002-50390, 70000-100769 (these are for locations on the Intercolonial Railway in Eastern Canada, including Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island); an additional set of PF numbers are also for Eastern Canada, that go from 0/1-0/2377 with the earliest dates being from 1902.

There is an additional set of PF numbers that go from 100770-102818, and these PF file cards cover for locations of employees working in Western Canada, primarily Transcona, Manitoba (just outside of Winnipeg) but also other locations such as Melville, Saskatchewan, and have date ranges from ca. 1918 into the 1930s. It is believed that these are for employees who were working for government-run National Transcontinental Railway, later Canadian Government Railways, later again Canadian National Railways.

All the employee service cards have been digitized.
