Scope and content:

File consists of a leather bound album of photographs taken on Robert Bell's 1878, 1879 and 1880 expeditions of the Geological Survey of Canada to Manitoba and Hudson Bay. The photographs include prints from GSC negatives 5602 to 5688 and 91876 to 91891, which depict northern Manitoba, including: Nelson River, Churchill River, Hudson Bay, and Winnipeg. Subjects include: Norway House, York Factory, Lower Fort Garry, Winnipeg, Fort Churchill, the Hudson's Bay Company Fort Prince of Wales, and Oxford House, Indigenous and Métis people, as well as photographs depicting the signing of a treaty at St Peters in 1880. During the 1880 expedition Bell surveyed the coast of Hudson Bay from on board a ship sailing for England. The pages of the album have been removed from their binding, but are maintained in order within the leather cover.
