File consists of an album of photographs taken on James Richardson's 1871-1875 expeditions and C.H. Clapp's 1909 expedition of the Geological Survey of Canada to British Columbia. Richardson returned seasonally to British Columbia from 1871-1875. His expedition was measuring and examining coal formations, especially in the Nanaimo coal fields, and also assisted the Canadian Pacific Railway surveys. Photographs include prints from GSC negatives 37 to 49 by Richardson, and 4576 to 4611 by Clapp. They depict mines near Nanaimo and geological formations in eastern and southern Vancouver Island including: Nanaimo, Departure Bay, nad Sooke Lake. The album pages were bound with string, which has been removed. The pages remain in order within the covers of the album.
