Fonds consists of records that document the Canadian Council of Professional Fish Harvesters (CCPFH).

The fonds documents: the operation of the CCPFH national office, including the general assemblies (held every third year), administrative meetings (board of directors, committees, working groups); the development and delivery of professionalization programs and workshops (e.g. management of fishing business, health and safety, seal harvesting, etc.) and professionalization meetings and conferences; the CCPFH involvement with the World Fish Harvesters and Fishworkers (WFF), a global organization supporting and promoting independent fish harvesters; and correspondence and interactions with the CCPFH membership.

Records include reports, minutes, agendas, correspondence, convention kits, and publications and pamphlets. Also included are lapel pins that show the CCPFH logo.

Canadian Council of Professional Fish Harvesters : The Canadian Council of Professional Fish Harvesters (CCPFH), founded in 1995, was a non-profit organization that "represent[ed] the interests of independent fish harvesters across the country on issues of common concern."

The CCPFH had the mandate to "have fish harvesters recognised as professionals" and to "defend the independent owner-operator fishery." The CCPFH promoted national issues that were important to its members and worked with regional organizations to develop a program for professionalization and professional recognition.

The CCPFH was formed as a response to a number of major pressures and changes in the fishing industry including, among other causes: the industry downsizing after stock collapses on the Pacific and Atlantic coasts, the increased importance of conservation and ecosystem management, and the introduction of mandatory safety training for fish harvesters.

The CCPFH was based in Ottawa, Ontario. It ceased operations in the late 2010s.

The CCPFH identified several "national issues of common concern" including: "strengthening the owner-operator and fleet separation policies in Atlantic Canada; getting fairer tax treatment for fish harvesters; health and safety; [and] fiscal issues affecting intergenerational transfers of licences."

Professionalization was "the formal recognition by governments and the general public that fish harvesting is a highly skilled occupation [...]. The Council, its members and partners work to: promote the education and training of Canadian fish harvesters; develop and implement training initiatives that reflect the needs of fish harvesters [...]; have all fish harvesters recognized as belonging to their own professional bodies with acceptable standards and criteria."
