The collection consists of textual records, such as published material produced by the First Canadian Winter Games' Organizing Committee, and includes press communications, bulletins, reports, correspondence, promotional items, and official programmes related to each of the sporting events held at the Games. Also included are photographs of the Games' headquarters, official flag, logo, and members of the organizing committee.

Normand, Antoine : The Canada Games are a national multi-sport event that takes place every two years, in which amateur athletes from across the country compete in a variety of sports. The event alternates between the Winter and Summer Games and has been hosted in cities within every province and territory since its inception. The Canada Games Council is a non-profit organization that governs the Games, and provides leadership and support to host cities in areas of planning, protocols, marketing, and sponsorship, including maintaining partnerships with key national sporting bodies and corporate sectors.

The first ever Canada Games took place from February 11-19, 1967 in Quebec City, Quebec as part of Canada's Centennial celebrations, in which athletes, coaches and managers participated in 15 different sporting events, ranging from skiing, hockey and speed skating to basketball, volleyball, gymnastics and synchronized swimming, among others. The Games served as a springboard for many significant athletes and their sporting careers, most notably gold medal winning figure skater Toller Cranston, and gymnast Teresa McDonell, who later competed in three consecutive Olympic Games.

The records were collected by Antoine Normand, who was the Director of External Relations and a member of the organizing committee for the First Canadian Winter Games in 1967.
