File consists of an interview with Robert Bateman titled "The wild world of Robert Bateman." The interview was conducted by Silver Donald Cameron as part of The Green Interview. File includes video of the interview, printed transcript, sound recording, and closed captioning file.

From the interview with Robert Bateman: "Something else that's missing is a sense of place. I'm a huge admirer of Tom Thomson and the Group of Seven. They felt deeply in their heart about Algonquin Park, and then Algoma, Ontario, after Tom Thomson died. You can look at a little Tom Thomson oil sketch and you can actually tell what week that was painted in the season. I'm thinking of one about spring breakup with the ice melting and the far shore, you can see that the birch twigs turn pinkish and the aspen twigs turn chartreusey in that particular week. He just knew everything. He painted in bold, thick paint, but he just understood and knew everything. And he deeply loved it."

Also from the interview: "The naturalist in me knows that way more birds and mammals-and for that matter snakes, skinks and praying mantises and everything-sees you than you see them. They're out there, and as you are passing by, walking though nature, they're seeing you. But they are not going to reveal themselves. The normal thing for wildlife is to not be obvious, not be out there front and centre. [...] I consider myself an ecological painter. How does the animal fit into the habitat? And I think I always make the habitat suit the creature."

From The Green Interview website: Robert Bateman, one of the world's most celebrated wildlife artists. The Robert Bateman Centre at Royal Roads University is dedicated to advancing his passionate commitment to education and the environment.

One of the world's most celebrated wildlife artists, Robert Bateman was born in Toronto in 1930 and spent much of his youth observing and admiring the wildlife of the Toronto ravines. He was inspired by the Group of Seven to create abstract paintings of nature, but he did not immediately pursue art as a career. Instead, he took a degree in geography at the University of Toronto in 1954, and later studied at the Ontario College of Education. He traveled around the world in a Land Rover in 1957-58, increasing his appreciation of cultural and natural heritage. He married Suzanne Bowerman in 1961, and the couple had three children.
