From the interview with Kartikeya Sarabhai: "The legal mind who started this CEE industrial group, for instance, I've never heard him use the word "pollution" when he talks to industry. He uses the word "waste recovery." At first I didn't understand what he was doing. But what he has done is, that if you look at this from the outside, what comes out is pollution. If you look at it from inside, then you are losing resources. So the way that he put it to industry was: "You are losing millions of dollars in what you are throwing out. And if you do this waste recovery, this is all the benefits that you can get." He turned it around a bit, and played on their own financial instinct. It's interesting how language plays a significant role."

In 2005, the organization received the Global Award for Outstanding Service to Environmental Education from the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE).
