Ted Johnson served as Prime Minister Trudeau's Executive Assistant from the Liberal's return to power in 1980 through to Trudeau's resignation in 1984. Most of the files in the sub-series date from this period; although there are a few from the late 1970s, which he apparently inherited from his predecessors.

The sub-series is arranged in four blocks: Constitution, Correspondence, Subject Files, and Travel and Events.

Constitution
The files are arranged in alphabetical order by subject. Included are briefing materials on provincial issues, first ministers' meetings, native concerns, Patriation of the constitution, and the press.

Correspondence
The files are arranged in chronological correspondence, and include both incoming and outgoing correspondence.

Subject Files
Contains files which were used in the Prime Ministers Office and what appears to be Ted Johnson's personal files. The files are arranged in alphabetical order by subject.

Travel and Events
This sub-series includes both foreign and domestic travel, official visitors to Canada, and events in which the Prime Minister was involved, such as dinners, meetings and speeches. The files are arranged in chronological order.

The Ted Johnson Staff sub-series is similar to the Ivan Head Staff sub-series largely because both individuals held senior PMO positions. The difference between the two sub-series is a reflection of the domestic (Ted Johnson) vs. the international (Ivan Head) focus of these two distinct senior PMO positions. Similar documents may also be found in other series such as the Planning Office Series (MG 26 O 15), the Ivan Head Staff sub-series (MG 26 O 19) and the Press Office Series (MG 26 O 13).
