Fonds consists of records that document Helen Smith's research, writing and promotion of her book "Ottawa's farm: a history of the Central Experimental Farm."

Fonds documents editing of the manuscript, research notes, reference material and sales and promotions. Also included are interviews conducted with former employees (to discuss working on the farm) and interviews conducted with the adult children of former employees (to discuss living on the farm as children).

Records include book chapters, interview transcripts, pamphlets, guides, newsletters, articles, and correspondence.

Smith, Helen, 1949-2014 : Helen Smith (1949-2014) was born in Ottawa, the youngest daughter of the late H. Lloyd Smith and late Helen M. (Gray) Smith. Helen earned a Bachelor of History in Canadian history (Queen's University) and a Master of Library Science (University of Western Ontario). She worked as a children's librarian, the librarian at Heritage Canada and as an office manager of a law firm. She was also an editor and writer. She was the author of "Canada's farm: a history of the Central Experimental Farm."
