In 1968, CN created an international consulting division known as CANAC Consultants Limited Incorporated (CANAC). CANAC, a joint undertaking between Canadian National and Air Canada, offered international consulting services in the areas of air and surface transportation. At its peak, CANAC had about 9000 professional, managerial, and technical staff. The company was split into several areas of service areas of expertise:

Management of Operations
Construction Management
Design and Engineering
Transportation Planning and Implementation
Transportation Analyses and Studies
Personnel Training
Equipment and Materials Procurement and Inspection

This sub-series contains operational and administrative records of this consulting branch of CN.

Many volumes contain records relating to the inspection of various private railway companies in Canada and in international locations. The inspection of railway companies in international locations appears to have been joint projects with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and other international development agencies. There are numerous black and white and colour photographs interfiled, as well as some technical drawings.
