Includes the following descriptive text on the dam construction at Hogs Back " 26th feby 1828 - After the exertion used by the Contractor, to close the opening on the Dam, it was found the means adopted would not succeed, for the weight of water when raised to about 20feet, carried away the stone, etc. placed in the opening (side no 1) and also a part of the Main dam - The quantity of matter remaining in the Dam when measured after the accident was found to be 25142 cubic yards.", Shows excavation for canal, proposed site of locks and excavation of entrance.
