Includes the following descriptive text on the Hogs Back dam construction "1st March 1828. The Contractor being found incapable to complete his contract and the part of the Dam already formed and remaining levy in immiment danger from the expected Spring floods, every exertion was made to throw the floods through a channel on the NE side of the River, excavated for this purpose - to effect this a Dam formed of very large trees was constructed, stopping against the stream the intersties between the logs were covered with poles, the whole covered with brush wood and clay - a wall of rough masses of stone was also built to protect the end of the Dam.
