This file holds manuscripts relating to the Elgin settlement and Buxton Mission, paginated 636-835. It includes a draft constitution of the Elgin Society or Association; plan of the Elgin settlement; Statement of the lands purchased in Raleigh Township by the Elgin Association; Scheme for improving the Coloured people of Canada; Report of the mission to the Coloured population; annual report of the Elgin Association; notes for speeches; petitions to Parliament relating to the settlement of Blacks in Raleigh township; tributes to Rev. William King; accounts; and an index of stockholders and register of lands.

The petition of the inhabitants of the township of Raleigh opposing King's plan (pages 701-702) was removed from the file and is stored in separate horizontal storage as container 2.
