Biographie/Histoire administrative :Cruikshank, E. A. (Ernest Alexander), 1853-1939 : In 1908 Ernest Cruikshank, military officer and historian, was appointed keeper of military documents in the Public Archives, but he resigned in 1911 to become a Colonel on the permanent staff of the active militia. In 1917 he was assigned to the Canadian front in France, with the rank of Brigadier-General. After the war he served as Director of the Historical Section of the general staff until his retirement in 1921. He was author of numerous historical and biographical works, and his papers consist largely of manuscripts of books and articles and of documents relating to published or projected works. He was the Chairman of the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada from its inception in 1919 until his death.Information additionnelle :Note générale :Most of the material was presented by Mrs. E.A. Cruikshank in 1949. The correspondence with James H.
