Item is a notebook containing miscellaneous memoranda for the period 1887 to 1905, kept by William Saunders as director of the Experimental Farms Branch, and dealing with miscellaneous items such as employees' salaries and the results of experiments. It includes a 25 page memorandum on tests conducted at the Central Experimental Farm for tuberculosis in cattle. An index is included in front of notebook.

Saunders, William, 1836-1914 : William Saunders (1836-1914) initially trained as a druggist. Saunders was one of the founders of the Ontario College of Pharmacy. He was appointed director of the newly established Experimental Farms Branch of the Dominion Department of Agriculture in 1886. He originated many promising varieties of fruit and grain, and inaugurated the research program that led to the development of Marquis Wheat by his son, Sir Charles Edward Saunders (1867-1937). An author and scholar, he was a member of many learned societies in Canada, the U.S. and Europe. RG17 General Inventory and MSS records.
