Beatty, Edward Wentworth, 1878-1943 : Edward Beatty was born at Thorold, Ontario and educated at Upper Canada College, University of Toronto and Osgoode Hall. He articled with a Toronto firm and in 1901 was made an assistant to the Canadian Pacific Railway's general counsel. In 1913 he was appointed general counsel, in 1914 vice-president and served as president from 1918 until 1943. Beatty strengthened the system and created Canadian Pacific Airlines in 1942. He was knighted in 1935.
