26 postal covers.Language of material:EnglishScope and content:Fonds consists of correspondence, diaries, military and business papers, drafts of speeches and articles, and clippings, 1917-1968. The fonds also contains photographs of the Eielsen Search Mission, 1929, provincial commercial air carriers, and portraits, ca. 1920-1945. Philatelic material includes: an envelope bearing Oak Airways Limited, Port Arthur, Ontario, printed commercial corner card; Patricia Airways & Exploration Limited semi-official air mail first flight covers; Western Canada Airways Limited semi-official; and Jubilee Air Mail first flight covers, 1926-1927.
Included in horizontal storage: a certificate of Fellowship in the Royal Aeronautical Society, 1930, container 3.Provenance:Biography/Administrative history:Oaks, Harold Anthony, 1896-1968 : Born in Hespeler, Ontario, H.A. "Doc" Oaks served with the 1st Divisional Signal Corps and the Royal Flying Corps in France during World War I. In 1922 he graduated as a mining engineer from the University of Toronto and in 1924 joined the Ontario Provincial Air Service.
He helped to form the Patricia Airways and Exploration Ltd. and the Western Canada Airways Ltd. in 1926 and the Northern Aerial Minerals Exploration Ltd. (N.A.M.E.) in 1928. In 1931, Oaks formed Oaks Airways Ltd., operating at first out of Sioux Lookout and later out of Port Arthur, Ontario.
During World War II Oaks was associated with Clark Ruse Aircraft Co. of Nova Scotia and Central Aircraft of London, Ontario. In 1952, he moved to Toronto where he became a mining analyst and consultant. He was awarded the McKee Trophy in 1927.
