Item is a farm account book that records the itemized daily and monthly expenditures and receipts of a farm in late nineteenth and early twentieth century Ontario; these include food, clothing, education, rents, taxes, wages, farm implements, animals and produce. Also of interest are the irregular annual records of general expenses, labour costs and work done, taxes and milk sales.

Frith, John, 1837-1926 : John Frith was born in England in 1837 and later immigrated to New York State where he entered into a partnership as a pawn broker. Settlement inducing land grants brought Frith to Ontario, and he settled on a farm in Gloucester Township. He married Frances Brown (1842-1898). Their son, John T. Frith (1871-1967), became the second owner of the farm.
