Collection consists of garrison letterbooks for the Royal Canadian Rifles Regiment, consisting of handwritten copies of acquittance and muster rolls, duty rosters, parade states, and pay lists for the Royal Canadian Rifle Regiment, Companies "B", "N" and "I", stationed at Kingston, Ont.

Canada. Canadian Army. Royal Canadian Rifles : The Royal Canadian Rifle Regiment was organized in 1840, and made up of volunteers from the nineteen British regiments then serving in Canada. The men were originally to be fifteen-year veterans, but recruiting conditions were changed over the years in order to maintain the establishment. At one point there were as many as fourteen companies stationed as far afield as Fort Garry. Three companies were posted to Kingston after 1860, and in 1868 the regimental head-quarters were established there. The last regimental parade was held at Kingston 1 April 1870, and in September the regiment was disbanded.
