Fonds consists of records documenting DeWolf's career as a naval officer. Records include early official appointments, letters of congratulations, correspondence with other naval officers and naval historians, scrapbooks, clippings and diplomas dating from World War II. Most of the correspondence relates to DeWolf personally, 1921-1987.

The fonds also contains photographs which depict events, activities, and people associated with DeWolf's naval career including photographs at the Royal Naval College of Canada, 1921; exchange duty with the Royal Navy, 1920s and 1930s; Royal Naval Staff College, Greenwich, England, 1937; as Commanding Officer of H.M.C. Ships St. Laurent, Haida, Warrior, and Magnificent, 1939-1948; as Flag Officer Pacific Coast, 1948-1950; Vice Chief of Naval Staff, 1950-1952; Chairman, Canadian Joint Staff, Washington, 1852-1960; a reunion of H.M.C.S. Haida Association, Victoria, 1980; and the H.M.S. Cormorant at Esquimalt, B.C., 1887.

The fonds also contains home movie footage taken by Vice-Admiral H.G. De Wolf of the Royal Canadian Navy and family events filmed in Canada, England, Jamaica and Venezuala (1934-1969).

DeWolf, Harry George, 1903 : Admiral DeWolf was born at Bedford, Nova Scotia and graduated from the Royal Naval College of Canada in 1921. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy for forty years. During World War II he commanded HMCS St. Laurent and HMCS Haida, and served at Halifax and Ottawa. Between 1941 and 1953 he was decorated several times. From 1948, after being promoted to Rear-Admiral, he served as Flag Officer on the Pacific Coast, at naval headquarters in Ottawa until 1952 and from then until 1956 at the Canadian Embassy in Washington. In 1956 he became Chief of the Naval Staff. He retired to Bermuda in 1961.
