Fonds consists mainly of diaries, notebooks, works and drafts of works concerning Edward Forbes Bush's career in the R.C.A.F., as an historian and in his retirement. Fonds also contains correspondence between Bush and his son John. Some correspondence between E.F. Bush and other family members as well with friends can also be found. A dedicated reader and diarist, Bush chronicles in detail the life and times of a well-educated, middle-class English Canadian over the course of nearly seventy years.

Bush, Edward F, 1922-2007 : Born in Orangeville, Ontario, Mr. Bush, public servant, received his primary and secondary education in Toronto. In 1942, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and served in Canada and Britain, reaching the rank of Flying Officer. He was discharged from the R.C.A.F. in November 1945 and the following September enrolled in the honours history programme at Cambridge. Upon graduation, he held various positions in numerous locations. He taught in England, briefly returned to the R.C.A.F., worked with the Department of Transport as a radio operator and from 1960-1968 was an archivist at the Public Archives of Canada. In September 1968, he began working with Parks Canada as an archivist and historian. In 1969, he obtained his Master of Arts degree in history from Carleton University. In February 1987, Mr. Bush retired from Parks Canada.
