Item is a memorandum to a Mr. Rose, possibly George Rose then Vice-President of the Board of Trade, concerning the fur and lumber trades in British North America and the general state of trade between those colonies and the West Indies, 18 March 1809. The memorandum is entitled Notes and Memorandum relative to the trade between British North America and the West Indies, the supply of the navy and troops there, with a comparative statement between the value of the fur trade and that of lumber provisions and their relative advantages to the parent state.

Rose, George, 1744-1878 : George Rose entered the navy at an early age, but left it in 1762 for the pursuit of a public service career. In 1784 he was granted the office of Master of the Pless in the Court of the Exchequer for life. In 1788, he suceeded to the place of Clerk of the Parliament. During 1804 and 1807 he served as Vice-President of the Board of Trade. He retired from active life in 1812.
