Its presidents included public figures like Robert Borden, George Foster, Ernest Lapointe, Cairine Wilson, and Henry Marshall Tory. Its national secretaries included Terence W. L. MacDermott, 1934-1935, and Robert Boyer Inch, 1935-1942.
The society worked to promote awareness and understanding of international relations, peace, and the work of the League of Nations. It distributed league publications and its own journal, "Interdependence"; sponsored speaking tours and radio broadcasts; and liaised with League of Nations societies in other countries. It was the first Canadian organization to encourage public interest in and understanding of international affairs. The Second World War created strains in the direction and leadership of the society, and in 1946 it was replaced by the new United Nations Association in Canada.Additional information:Custodial history:The bulk of the papers were received some time before 1959, possibly from Wilson Woodside.
