Fonds consists of family papers concerning four generations of the Woolsey family beginning with Robert Woolsey, the uncle of John William Woolsey, 1767-1972; and family papers concerning eight generations of the Woolsey family, 1910-1984.

Also included are copy photographs of the Woolsey family tree, original mounted prints of Edgar C. Woolsey by Sproule & O'Connor, portrait of the Woolsey family by William Notman, and squared timber rafts on the Ottawa River near Parliament Hill.

Woolsey, John William, 1767-1853 : John William Woolsey, the son of an Irish immigrant of the same name, became one of the leading merchants and citizens of Quebec, in the post-Conquest era. He served in the Militia during the War of 1812, was the first president of the Quebec Bank, and was prominent in the movement in opposition to the Act of Union. He also improved the wharfage facilities and standardized the rates at Quebec.

Textual records (Electronic) The finding aid provides descriptive lists of the three volumes of records, reflecting three separate deposits of material. Volume 1, files 1 to 18, is an item-level descriptive list of the papers of various Woolsey family members and business associates, arranged in chronological order. Volume 2, file 19, is a descriptive list of genealogical notes and charts, and for files 20 to 26, a file-title list of financial records.
