Collection consists of a letter written by Powell 12 July 1820, a few days after his arrival in Quebec, to an unknown person giving a resumé of his military service and the inscription from Powell's tombstone at Prescott, Ontario.

Powell, John, 1783-1826 : John Powell joined the 9th Regiment in 1799 and served in Holland and Spain. In 1800 he was promoted to Lieutenant. Powell went on to serve in Ireland, South America, France and Canada. He became a captain and brevet major of the 76th Regiment. Powell died 15 February 1826, aged 43 at Prescott, Ontario.
