Fonds consists of three series of textual records which include correspondence, files of the National Executive and provincial branches, committee files, conference files, general information, publications and reports. A major subseries of the collection relates to the activities of the Women's Athletic Committee of C.A.H.P.E.R.

The fonds contains photographs which depict views of people playing tchoukball and ringette; officials of the Canadian Association of Health, Physical Education and Recreation and others involved in recreation; display kit at the Canadian Symposium of Recreation. Also included are films and video recordings on fitness, physical education, and recreation in Canada, [ca. 1970]-1991.

Canadian Association for Health, Physical Education and Recreation : At the suggestion of Dr. A.S. Lamb, and financed by McGill University, the organization of a national physical education association was undertaken by the Quebec Physical Education Association in 1931. In 1933 the efforts of the Quebec and Toronto Physical Education Associations culminated in the establishment of the Canadian Physical Education Association. This national organization grew steadily until it included branches in every province.

Because of the interests of its members in closely related and frequently overlapping fields, the name was changed in 1948 to the Canadian Association for Health, Physical Education and Recreation (C.A.H.P.E.R.).

Additional material, not described here, is in process. Researchers wishing to use this material should consult Social/Cultural Archives.
Two chronologically overlapping file systems were found to exist in the C.A.H.P.E.R. records received in 1972. Both systems were maintained and designated as Series I and Series II. Additional records, received each year from 1975-1981 have been designated as Series III. Photographs were received from the Canadian Association of Health, Physical Education and Recreation in 1978 and the moving images in 1995.
