Fonds consists of an account book, 1784-1815, 1841, 1899, of Samuel Sherwood (1754-1824), with later additions. The first three pages contain genealogical information, 1754-1924, relating to Samuel Sherwood and his son, Samuel Harris Sherwood. Also included are a number of poems. The material was copied in 1947.

Sherwood, Samuel, 1754-1824 : Samuel Sherwood (1754-1824) was born on 22 February 1754. At the time of the American Revolution he was a loyalist and served with the Loyal Rangers. He settled in Fredericksburgh Township, Lennox and Addington County, ca. 1784, and established a store there. In 1790, he moved to Thurlow Township, Hastings County, where he continued his career as a merchant. On 2 December 1778, he married Eunice [Harris ?], by whom he appears to have had one daughter, Rachel (1779-1848) and two sons, John (born 8 July 1787) and Samuel Harris (born 12 October 1793). William Sherwood (born 28 December 1804) may have been his son by a later marriage.

Textual records (Paper) The thorough and reasonably accurate index at the end of the book appears to have been supplied by the transcriber; it gives references to the page numbers of the typescript, not to those of the original. A corrected version of the index to the transcript is with the book and the names have also been incorporated in the General Index. (90: Open)
