This is a program in a CBC radio series, presenting features, weather, sports, and music which include the following segments in today's ASSIGNMENT series. Gordon Sinclair reads the national weather. Bill Anderson reports on a naval review in Norfolk, Virginia. Canada is represented by the HMCS Ottawa and the HMCS Assiniboine. Sir Ernest MacMillan, Canadian conductor and composer, is interviewed by Tony Thomas, and talks about hs internment in Germany during WWI. Jack Tighe, Manager of the Detroit Tigers Baseball Club, is interviewed by Gordon Howard, and talks about the problem of fist fighting amongst players in baseball games. James Bannerman and Earle Manning, Director, Meat Packers Council of Canada talk about selecting and buying meat. Lister Sinclair reports on the Learned Societies' meetings in Ottawa. The report includes a clip of Leonard Knott, public relations man, who says universities should be a centre of learning, not career training. Howie Engle attends graduation ceremonies at Convocation Hall, University of Toronto; several students comment. Ward Cornell talks to two male students who are planning a budget tour of Europe; and Howie Engel talks to two female students who are also planning a budget tour of Europe. Bill McNeil reports on the topic of political campaigning and talks to two candidates from the last federal election. McNeil speaks with Arthur Maloney, PC candidate, who won the Parkdale riding (Toronto), and talks about his political background and his campaign. McNeil also speaks with Robert Campbell, author of Whee the People, unsuccessful Liberal candidate in two federal elections, who talks about the chaos of politics and campaigning. <1h>
