Obata. He was born in Prince Rupert, British Columbia and graduated from the University of British Columbia with an engineering degree in 1937. Among his career highlights are the formation of the Japanese Canadian Committee for Democracy, which aided evacuees in Toronto to find housing and jobs, his army service as part of the S-20 intelligence unit and his work as part of the National Association of Japanese Canadians and its campaign to seek redress.
