Description:

Sound recording of the audio portion of an edition of the summer television mini-series Jam on Both Sides. Hosted by Neil Chotem, the programme explores the music in poetry and the poetry in music, with dance interpretations. The programme features the poems of five Montreal poets (Louis Dudek, A.M. Klein, Irving Layton, F.R. Scott, and Leonard Cohen). The texts are spoken by Mignon Elkins, Budd Knapp, Henry Ramer, and Len Birman. The dancers are Michel Conte and Eva von Genscy, with choreography by Conte. Music is heard during or between the poetry readings, with the instrumentation including piano, bass, percussion, harp, trumpet, flute, saxophone, and strings. <28mn 50s>

1. Other extent, physical details information: 1 audio reel : acetate, 7.5 ips ; 18 cm in diam.~2. Sound fades briefly on one occasion during Chotem's introductory remarks at the beginning of the recording.~3. Housed in an audio reel box with a Canadian Broadcasting Corporation / Société Radio-Canada label bearing the title "TV Music Hall" and the date of recording 3 January 1962; however, this information may not be relevant. The label also bears the notes: "Jam on both sides 6153-24 July 26 - 61"; and "Neil Chotem Serge Garant poètes de Montreal".~4. This audio reel is no doubt related to the film Jam on Both Sides, which forms part of the Chotem fonds (IDC 423814). The reference number (6153-24) and date (26 July 1961) noted on the audio reel box label are also noted on the leaders of the film print and magnetic track.
