News conference held by the Task Force on Microelectronics and Employment, represented by [Murray Hardie], Executive Director; [Harish C. Jain], member and Professor of Personnel and Industrial Relations at McMaster University; [Jeanine-David McNeil]; Dr. E. Margaret Fulton, Chairperson of the Task Force and President of Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax; Charles Caccia, Minister of Labour; [Zavis Zeman], Director of Technology and Society program with the Institute for Research on Public Policy in Toronto and member of the Task Force and Dr. Ratna Ray, Director of the Women's Bureau with Labour Canada and member of the Task Force. In an opening statement, Dr. Ray reports on the conclusion of the National Conference on Technology and the highlights of the Task Force's recommendations. A question and answer period follows in which the above panel field questions on: the impact of video display terminals: the impact of microelectronics on jobs; establishment of a Canadian Centre for Microelectronics; re-training; women and affirmative action regarding technology; the standaridization of microelectronic products and the loss of jobs. <58mn>
