This session, led by Conference Co-Chair Richard Horton, looked at the scientific, global, activist and developing country response to 25 years of living with AIDS. Speakers included Anthony Fauci, Director of The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Peter Piot, Executive Director of the Joint UN Programme on HIV/AIDS, Gregg Gonsalves, AIDS and Rights Alliance of Southern Africa, Elizabeth Madraa, Program Manager for the AIDS Control Programme, Ministry of Health, Uganda, and 22 year-old Hydeia Broadbent, Director of Hydeia & Friends, who was abandoned at birth and diagnosed as HIV-positive at the age of three, with the prognosis that she would not live past age five.
