Fonds consists of a collection of 73 pages of correspondence chiefly written between 12 November 1921 and 13 February 1923 when Robb was Vice-President of the Grand Trunk Railway and then, after 4 October 1922, of the Canadian National Railways; as well as, a letter to Robb as Superintendent of the Mechanical and Motor Department of the Grand Trunk from an employee of the department on the question of internal promotion, dated 1912; a letter from the Department of Welfare and Education of the Canadian National Railways, responding to a letter written to a newspaper by "John Citizen" about the Canadian National Railways' policies on religion; and two other miscellaneous items, 1926, 1930. Many of the 73 letters are personal exchanges between Robb and Sir Joseph Flavelle, Chariman of the Grand Trunk, from 1920 to 1922.

Others are transcript copies that were sent to Robb of Flavelle's correspondence with Howard G. Kelley, President of the Grand Trunk; W.C. Kennedy and Major G.A. Bell, Ministers and Deputy Minister, respectively, of the Department of Railways and Canals; R.A.C. Henry, also of the Department of Railways and Canals; and Prime Minister W.L. Mackenzie King. The principal topic of the letters is the amalgamation of the Grand Trunk system into the new Canadian National system, and the reorganization of Grand Trunk staff that this caused.

Robb, William Doig, b. 1857 : William Doig Robb, railway executive, was born in Longueuil, Quebec and began work in 1871 with the Grand Trunk Railway as a machinist apprentice. By 1917 he had been appointed Vice-President in charge of the Motive Power and Car Departments and, on 17 August 1922, was made Vice-President and General Manager of the whole system. He was active throughout the arrangements leading to the Grand Trunk amalgamation into the Canadian National Railways on 4 October 1922. After the amalgamation Robb was Vice-President of Canadian National Railways and remained in this position until his retirement in May of 1931.
