Fonds consists of personal correspondence dealing with Michael Garber's activities as president of the Zionist Organization of Canada and the Canadian Jewish Congress, which includes some important correspondence between Garber and Yehudah Leib Levin, Chief Rabbi of Moscow (volumes 1-2).

Garber, Michael, 1892-1977 : Michael Garber, barrister and community leader, was born in Lithuania and immigrated to Canada in 1906, settling in Montreal. His father, Simcha Garber was a prominent Orthodox rabbi, who co-founded the Rabbinical Council of Montreal. Garber commenced the practice of law in 1919 and joined the firm of Garber and Blumestein in 1928. Garber served as president of the Zionist Organization of Canada, 1956-1958 and the Canadian Jewish Congress, 1962-1968. He also served as Alderman for Westmount, 1955-1959. He also wrote a weekly column in the Canadian Jewish Chronicle, under the name of the "Calumnist" from 1925 to 1929.
