Fonds consists of papers of Dr. Frederick Dodge Mott related to his career as a health care administrator, academic, and author. Including research and reference materials; papers relating to such organizations as, the Farm Security Administration of the United States Department of Agriculture, Saskatchewan Health Services Planning Commission, Miners Memorial Hospital Association, Community Health Association of Detroit, University of Toronto School of Hygiene, and the St. Catharines and District Community Group Health Foundation.

The fonds also contains photographs of Dr. Mott; Community Health Association, Detroit; group portraits of members of Society of Medical Administrators; views of various hospitals in the United States; University of Toronto School of Hygiene, Medicine Administration class, 1933-1971.

Mott, Frederick Dodge, 1904-1981 : Frederick Dodge Mott, born in Wooster, Ohio, was educated at Princeton and McGill universities, graduating as a medical doctor, 1932. From 1937 to 1946 he was a medical officer for the Farm Security Administration of the United States Department of Agriculture, becoming Chief Medical Officer in 1942. He was chairman, 1946-1951, of the Saskatchewan Health Services Planning Commission; in this capacity he helped to establish the Saskatchewan Hospital Services Plan, a province-wide, tax-supported hospitalization program which was the first of its kind in Canada. During his tenure Mott also served as Acting Deputy Minister of Public Health, 1949-1951, and as Deputy Minister, 1951.

From 1952 to 1957 Mott was Medical Administrator of the Miners Memorial Hospital Association, a corporation established by the United Mine Workers of America to build and administer ten hospitals in the coal-mining districts of Kentucky and West Virginia. He was executive director, 1957-1964, of the Community Health Organization of Detroit, an organization established by the United Automobile Workers of America to provide a prepaid medical and hospital care program. From 1964 to 1966 he was a consultant on Medical Care for the New York Academy of Medicine. He ended his career as Professor of Medical Care at the School of Hygiene, University of Toronto, 1966-1972.

Dr. Mott wrote numerous articles and co-authored with Mitton Roemer, Rural Health and Medical Care, 1948.
