Gunn, Marcus, fl. 1823-1847 : Marcus Gunn came to North America as a schoolmaster with the 52nd Regiment when it was posted to New Brunswick in 1823. After receiving his discharge in 1826, he entered business as a merchant at Thurso, Scotland. Gunn brought his family to New Brunswick in 1828, moved to Pictou, N.S., and then in 1844 to London, Canada West. In 1847, he purchased a printing office in St. Thomas, but after two unsuccessful attempts to found a radical newspaper he sold the business and became a land agent. The papers are concerned primarily with personal family matters, thoughts on spiritualism and theology and occasional references to political events.
