The series consists of Gordon Robertson's handwritten observations on Cabinet meetings during his term as Clerk of the Privy Council and Secretary to the Cabinet and one file of congratulatory letters on his new post. Subjects include pending postal and railway strikes, energy supply allocation, oil policy and the American government's handling of the Vietnam War.

The series also includes files on changes to the classification and handling of government documents; government strategy for a minority government; the structure and organization of the Canadian government and similarities and differences to those in Australia and Great Britain in the early 1970s; correspondence with Oliver Gerald Stoner, Deputy Minister of Transportation at the time; correspondence with Jules Léger, correspondence and memos on the effects of constitutional revisions on the Monarchy and the Governor General; correspondence with Jules Leger and documents concerning his installation as Governor General and his funeral; notes on subjects under discussion by Cabinet at the time, such as Federal Provincial Relations, Disallowance and Reservation; the Columbia River Treaty, sale of CANDU reactors, Income Tax legislation (Bill C-222), and Cabinet leaks.

The series includes a photo album from Pierre Trudeau's official trip to Japan in 1970. The series consists of material from Mr. Robertson's trip to Nigeria in 1973 including trip arrangements, press releases, speeches, a photo album, Gordon Robertson's personal observations of the country and a May 2, 1973 interview with Mr. Robertson on "Matters of the Moment". The series also includes a CBC interview with Mr. Robertson from August 17, 1973.
