The collection includes nine mounted salon prints by Alfred S. Upton: Black Iris, Prelude, St. Jacobs Country, Magnolia, Ontario Farm: Saplings, Wayside Birches, The Gorge, Elora, and The Inner Harbour, Victoria, B.C.

The collection also includes a portrait of Charles Fraser Comfort, R.C.A. by Alfred Upton. This print No. 10 in a panel of 12 was the print used for the successful submission to The Royal Photographic Society, London, England for the Associateship of the Royal - 1972. Additionally, there are photographs of Mr. Charles Comfort painting a portrait of Alfred S. Upton, and a photograph of the painting; a Charles Comfort photograph that was published in "Moments of Beauty", by Alfred Upton.

As well, there is an album entitled: "Pictures from the Tyng Collection, Royal Photographic Society" containing five photogravures, as well as a laid-on gravure on cover. Photographs include: St. Malo, by Arthur W. Burgess; a Russian boy, by Alexander Leventon; Mrs. Violet Gordon Woodhouse at the harpsichord, by Herbert Lambert; Groote Kerke Veere, by John H. Anderson; Muriel Evans, by Arthur F. Kales.

The collection also contains one copy neg. of a mounted portrait of Alfred Upton, 1958, and one copy neg. of an early portrait of Alfred Upton.

Upton, Alfred S., 1898-1995 : Alfred Stephen Upton, insurance executive, amateur photographer. Born 1898 Southport, Lancashire, England. Flourished Montreal, Quebec, ca. 1927. A senior executive of Dominion Life insurance, Upton exhibited internationally for some 50 years, achieving Associateship in the Royal Photographic Society (1972) and becoming a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (1976).

Works located in: National Archives of Canada; private collections.
