Smith, Julian C : Julian C. Smith, professor, was born in Montreal, but became a citizen of the United States, where he has made his career. He studied Chemical Engineering at Cornell University where he would become a professor, and in 1975, Director of the School of Chemical Engineering. He worked abroad as visiting professor at least twice, consulted for a number of large corporations, published extensively in his field and belongs to the major chemical associations.

A philatelist since childhood, Smith's mentors in this area were Bill Maresch, James N. Sissons and H. P. William. His strength as a collector is in unused Canada, of which he had an impressive collection. Much of his collection was previously in other famous collections, and therefore of excellent provenance. He has won many awards, including the Grand at BNAPS 1981. He has written on several philatelic subjects, including methods to detect forgeries. Carr, Dr. Robert V.C.. Custodial history:

The postage stamps were acquired from R. Maresch & Son auction, October 23, 1986, Julian C. Smith Philatelic Collection: lots 1, 5, 41, 87, 112, 113, 124; by the National Postal Museum (NPM accession 1987-006). They were later acquired by the Canadian Postal Archives (and initially included in accession 1989-565).
