Inscribed. Dated., Inscription: inscribed in pen and ink, on the page facing the watercolour in the Plymouth Album: Sketch of the situation of H.M.S. Terror at Sunrise July 14 1837. A short time after this sketch was taken the men, (who from having been almost constantly working the ice saw for 18 hours) being nearly exhausted, were called on board to get some refreshment. They had scarcely left the ice five minutes when the ship suddenly reighted, the ice on which the men had been working struck the ship's side with so much force that every one on the ice must have been crushed.
