General note:

The former city of Saint-Boniface founded in 1818 by Bishop Provencher, is the capital of French Manitoba. It is the historical centre of the French-Canadian and Métis communities in Western Canada.
William H. E. Napier accompanied Henry Youle Hind's expedition to the Red River colony and the Canadian West in 1857-8. In the final report, several drawings are attributed to Nap, signed by Napier.
This album was compiled by Thomas Evans Blackwell, manager of the Grand Trunk Railroad between 1855 and 1864, and contains photos, watercolours, drawings, prints and maps.
