Series 1 was calendared in the Report of the Public Archives of Canada for 1912, Appendix I. The material on microfilm reels A-1992 and A-1993 have not been described in this finding aid. 1 painting : oil on canvas ; 90.2 x 68.6 cm.Langue du document :anglaisPortée et contenu :Collection consists of transcripts of James Murray's official and private correspondence, 1759-1789; letters from Murray's family and to his agents, 1760-1780; correspondence and related documents, including contemporary copies of letters and orders from James Wolfe and original letters from Murray's brothers Lord Elibank and Admiral George Murray, 1757-1778; a copy of Murray's official campaign journal and related documents, apparently compiled by or for William Paxton of the 47th Regiment, 1759-1760; Murray's last will and testament, 6 September 1793; bonds and receipts, 1764-1768; and transcripts of extracts from the municipal records of Hastings relating to James Murray, 1767-1768.
Collection also consists of the following microfilmed material: correspondence received and sent by James Murray, 1759-1791; documents relating to his career in Quebec, 1758-1766; a letterbook kept at Quebec, 1763-1765, and another kept at Minorca, 1780-1782; plus notes and commentary by James P. Murray on his reorganization of the papers and the regimental colours of the Royal American Regiment, 1914-1938. This material is located on microfilm reels A-1992 and A-1993.

Information additionnelle :Note générale :The graphic material was not accessioned when it came to the Public Archives of Canada. It was catalogued on August 19, 1931. There is no record in RG 37 C series, but the notes in the portrait file indicate it came from Mrs. Murray in Bath, so it must have come at the same time as the textual records.Historique de la conservation :Series 1 was copied in 1910-1912 from originals then in the possession of Mrs. Murray of Bath, England. Series 2 was copied in 1908 and 1928 from originals then in the possession of Arthur C. Murray of London, England. Series 3 and 6 are a composite of documents acquired at various times and dates, as detailed in the finding aid; many of the items were formerly part of the Sir Thomas Phillipps Collection. Series 4 was presented in 1966 by Robert Reford of Ottawa. Series 5 was copied in 1944 from the original in Somerset House, London. Series 7 was copied in 1906 from records of the Town of Hastings, England by Rev. P.M. O'Leary., The microfilmed documents were copied in 1991 from the originals loaned to the London Office of the National Archives of Canada by James P. Murray of Surrey, England., The graphic material was not accessioned when it came to the Public Archives of Canada. It was catalogued on August 19, 1931.
