The fonds consists of seven series, five of which document Tylor's friendship with the poet Robert Service. These include correspondence from Service to Tylor, clippings that relate to Service, and a collection of books that were personally inscribed to Tylor by Service. In addition, there is a brief manuscript written by Harold Tylor about Service and photographs of Service.

The fonds also includes a series of miscellaneous correspondence to Tylor, including letters from political leaders and prominent customers of the Canadian Bank of Commerce, as well as from other friends from his time in the Yukon Territory, and a series of memorabilia largely related to the Yukon.

Tylor, Harold E., 1880?-after 1964 : Harold Edgar Tylor was born ca. 1880. He worked as a clerk for the Canadian Bank of Commerce in its Berlin (Kitchener), Ontario, branch until 1899. At the age of 19, he left the bank to join the 2nd Canadian Mounted Rifles to fight in South Africa. Upon his return, he was placed in the Canadian Bank of Commerce's Vancouver branch before being transferred, on 20 January 1905, to Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, where he met fellow clerk Robert William Service. The two became close friends as they both were transferred to Dawson City, Yukon, in 1906. Robert Service went on to become the well-known author of such poems as "The Shooting of Dan McGrew" and "Songs of a Sourdough." From the time he left the Canadian Bank of Commerce to pursue his literary career until the time of his death in 1954, Service kept in touch with his Tylor. Tylor went on to make his own mark as a successful banker. He volunteered to join the army again in 1915, this time as a Captain in the 2nd Canadian Pioneers. In 1918, he resumed his banking career as the manager of the Canadian Bank of Commerce in Oshawa, Ontario. He became a "travelling representative" for the bank in 1924 and he continued in this capacity until his retirement in 1941. All the while, he continued to follow the career of his "old sourdough pal" Robert Service. Source of title name supplied by archivist.
