Rothwell, Annie, 1837-1927 : Annie Rothwell was a Canadian writer who published frequently in Canadian, American and British periodicals, and whose novel, Loved I Not Honour More, was published by Rose in Toronto in 1887.

She was born in London, England, in 1837, the daughter of artist Daniel Fowler, and was brought to Canada as a child. The family settled on Amherst Island, near Kingston, Ontario. She married a land agent, Richard Rothwell, ca. 1862, but was left a widow in 1874 and moved to Kingston. She was much affected by the Red River and North West Rebellions (her brother, R.A. Fowler, later MPP for Lennox Addington 1914-1923, served with the Red River Expeditionary Force) and she published many poems on the subjects, printed in the Toronto Mail, Winnipeg Manitoban, Montreal Star and The Week, among other papers. She also published serialized novels, including The Lost Lady Brathwaite and Alice Grey (both 1873), Edged Tools (1880) and Requital (1886). The only novel published in book form was Loved I Not Honour More (1887). Rothwell had no children of her own, but she raised her brother's son, Reginald Charles Fowler, after his mother's death in 1875. In 1895, she married the Reverend I. J. Christie, whose youngest daughter by a previous marriage, Frances, subsequently married Reginald Fowler. Annie Rothwell was left a widow for the second time in 1905 and she herself died in 1927 in New Liskeard, Ontario.
